Okay so you suffer with psoriasis? Trust me, You’re not alone!

Psoriasis actually effects around 3% of the worlds population which goinf by current world population estimates puts the number of psoriasis sufferers at approximately 203 million people! This scary figure explains why treatment for psoriasis is such big business.

The trouble is there is just so much in the way of treatment for psoriasis.

How do you know where to begin? Well fear not my fellow psoriasites, here is a list of the top five treatments for psoriasis.

1. Steroid cream – This has been the staple treatment for psoriasis for a long time now. They are extremely effective and come in varying strengths ranging from hydrocortisone for milder psoriasis right up to dermovate which is a very potent corticosteroid.

2. Coal Tar products – Believe it or not no one in the medical community has any idea how it works, but all doctors agree that somehow, it does! Although they have a nasty odour and can be a bit messy these products remain one of the most popular types of treatment for psoriasis, particularly when used in a shampoo form to as a scalp psoriasis treatment.

3. Light Therapy – Ever been on holiday to the caribbean and notice how much better your psoriasis became? Yes? Well thats because UBA/UVB rays have a hugely positive effect of the treatment of psoriasis. This used to be purely the domain of the dermatologists but in recent years home light therapy treatment for psoriasis has become available and at an affordable and cost effective price too!

4. Salicyclic Acid – This stuff has been around for years. Generally it works by lifting the scales of the skin and allowing other treatments to penetrate far more effectively which is why you commonly find it combined with other types of treatment for psoriasis.

5. Vitamin D products – Although milder than most of the other treatments this still can work very well. It is frequently used to provide treatment for psoriasis for those who are fragile in one way or another. A good example would be pregnant mothers or those with very sensitive skin.

So there you have it, the top five types of treatment for psoriasis. Not such a minefield now!

The important thing to remember however is that not all treatments work for everybody. Effective treatment for psoriasis is all about trial and error. If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!
